New Community College Program Guarantees Admission to CSU

The new degrees are called “Associate in Arts for Transfer (AA-T) and Associate in Science for Transfer (AS-T).  For the first time in California history, community college students who complete a new AA-T or AS-T will be GUARANTEED ADMISSION to the California State University (CSU) system. With this new degree, students will have the opportunity to complete two degrees with only 120 units if they apply and are admitted into a similar degree program. The website,, is a complete resource for students, mentors, and parents to learn about the Associate Degrees for Transfer.

It is important to note that admission is guaranteed to a California State University, not necessarily the student’s preferred campus.  Majors that qualify for this degree vary among the community colleges.  Students should check to see what AA-T and AS-T majors are available at the community college they are attending.

Some California State University majors may require additional lower division coursework in order to be admitted to their departmental schools.   Students should visit to see all of the articulated courses between their community college and the California State University major that they wish to pursue.
