Federal Pell  (FAFSA)  Grants Continued:  After the Application

What happens after the application has been submitted?


•The student will be mailed a Student Aid Report (SAR). It will come within 3 to 5 days if the application was submitted online.  It will take from 3 to 4 weeks to receive it if the application was submitted by mail.


•This report will state an Expected Family Contribution (EFC), restate what was put on the FAFSA application, and provide an opportunity to correct any information.


•The student will eventually get an award letter from the community college that will indicate the amount of financial aid that the student is able to receive.  The student can also check with the financial aid office to obtain this information.


•The student may need to supply the financial aid office with some proof of the income information that was used on the application.


•If the student qualifies for any cash assistance from FAFSA they will also automatically qualify for a California Board of Governors Grant (BOGW).
